Abstract

1406543 Wheel ballast weights DEERE & CO 13 Sept 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 43116/73 Heading B7C A segment 22, Fig. 1, for wheel ballast is intended to form, in butment with other identical segments 22, a continuous figuration around the face of the wheel disc and has a first abutment edge 26 and a second abutment edge 30 arranged such that, when the segments are attached to the wheel disc, the abutment edge 26 overlies the abutment edge 30 with the edge 30 between the edge 26 and the disc. As shown, three identical segments 22 are attached by means of bolts 36 and nuts 42 to the outboard face of the disc 12 of a tractor wheel. The edges 26 and 30 as shown are of bevelled form. The radially outer edges 24 of the segments are provided with projecting lips 27, Fig. 4. The three segments 22, Fig. 1, are said to form a ballast weight 10. Further ballast weights may be added in axially superimposed relationship. In Fig. 4, a single additional ballast weight 10A comprising three segments 22 is attached to the ballast weight 10 by means of bolts 48. In Fig. 5 (not shown), a ballast weight (10) comprising three segments (22) is attached to a one-piece ring-type ballast weight (50) mounted on the outboard face of a wheel disc (12).
