Abstract

1374912 Pouring spout; packaging containers ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 25 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971] 8845/72 Headings B8D and B8C A pouring spout for a can is formed from a flat sheet of resilient flexible plastics material, e.g. high density polyethylene, having a band 14, which is integrally connected at its ends to the sides of the part of the sheet defining the base portion of the spout and which is movable out of the plane of the sheet to shape the spout and to form with the base portion a can-encircling attachment. The band may be defined by a slit 28 extending parallel to an end edge of the sheet. Alternately, the band may be defined by two parallel slits 24, 25, Fig. 7 (not shown), or arcuate loops 17 or 21, Figs. 4 and 5 or Fig. 6 (not shown). The base portion of the spout may be provided with a lip extension 22, Fig. 6, or a handle 18, Figs. 4 and 5, to permit the formation of a multipack of cans by securing the handles together. The spout is provided with convergent score lines 16 to ensure the spout assumes a more V-shaped configuration towards the spout tip.
