Abstract
1374873 Froth flotation of fluorite MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 7 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 51192/72 Heading B2H In a process for separating fluorite from fluorite minerals whose gangue contains metal carbonates and/or barium sulphate, the ground fluorite mineral is suspended in water to form a slurry which is conditioned by allowing it to stand with polyethylenoxy alcohol, having the general formula R-(O-CH 2 -CH 2 ) n -OH where R is a straight chain alkyl group, preferably having 8 to 20 carbon atoms, and n is an integer, preferably in the range of 6 to 50, to depress the metal carbonates and/or the barium sulphate, and the liquor is subjected to subsequent conditionings with a coadjuvant of a fluorite collector and with a collector of fluorite, and then to flotation. The fluorite collector may be an unsaturated fatty acid, e.g. oleic acid. The coadjuvant may be a polyethylenoxyester, a methyl-oleyl-taurine or sodium salt thereof, or an ethylenoxylated tallow oil. After a first froth flotation the concentrate gathered in the froth may be refloated a number of times, preferably after reconditioning with smaller amounts of the depressor alcohol. Three examples are given. In one example flotation of metal sulphides is carried out in the presence of xanthogenate and cresylic acid.
