Abstract

1374688 Vibratory finishing T CAMPANELLI 14 Aug 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 37877/72 Heading B3D A vibratory machine comprises a bowl 13 into which a workload may be charged, the bowl having a workload centre 13C, a base 10 to which a sprung mass including at least the bowl is resiliently supported such that a vibratory wall point is defined a distance d below the workload centre, and a vibratory mechanism 22 coupled to the bowl and having a single concentric mass or weight 22M mounted for rotation about a point on a vertical axis in distance D below the wall point greater than the distance d. The bowl is of hollow toroidal shape and is carried by legs 17 from a plate 19 supported by springs 18 from a flange 20R of the base 10. The springs are arranged to define a horizontal mill plane 18P the distance d below the workload centre. A drum 24 is integral with the plate 19 and has a flange 23 secured to a housing 22T for a pair of bearings 22B supporting a shaft 22S. The mass or weight 22M is secured to the lower end of the shaft at the distance D below the mill plane 18P, and a variable diameter pulley 26 is secured in the plane 18P to the upper end of the shaft. The pulley is connected by a belt 27 to a pulley 28 which is rotated by a motor 29 carried by the base 10 and the diameter of which is adjustable by a manual adjustment 28A. The distance D may be up to five times greater than the distance d. In another embodiment, the mass or weight is mounted directly on the shaft of an electric motor secured within the drum 24, the space of the motor being remotely controlled from a console connected to the motor by a flexible cable.
