Abstract

137,464. Martin, T. O. May 22, 1919. Tool-holders.-A tool-holder for lathes and other machine tools, with slotted or divided sides, has its lower part extended to form a nose to serve as a support to the bottom of the point of the tool. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the holder consists of a bar 1 having a rectangular inclined socket for receiving the tool 5, the walls of the socket being slotted at 6. The end of the bar has a nose-piece 4 slightly narrower than the tool for supporting the cutting-end. To prevent undue wear through repeated tightening of the setscrew of the tool post, the upper part of the bar has a shallow raised portion 8, preferably hardened. The forward end is inclined downwardly and forwardly to form a clearance, as shown in Fig. 1. The slots and socket may be horizontal or at any angle, and, if desired, only one of the walls need be slotted. The socket may be triangular in section, as shown in Fig. 6, or circular to suit tools of those sections. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 13394/04.
