1374401 Production of alpha-imino nitriles BAYER AG 3 May 1972 [4 May 1972] 21078/73 Heading C2C Alpha-imino nitriles of a general formula in which R and R<SP>1</SP> which may be identical or different are each an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, which radical can be carrying one or more substituents selected from halogen, alkyl, nitrile and nitro groups, R<SP>1</SP> alternatively being a secondary amino, alkoxy or acyloxy radical are prepared by reacting an imide halide of the general formula in which X is a halogen preferably chlorine or bromine (a) with a metal cyanide M(CN) n or (b) with hydrogen cyanide or a compound which releases hydrogen cyanide in the presence of an acid binding agent.
