Abstract

1374060 Lighting fittings; ventilators SULZER BROS Ltd 19 Sept 1973 [19 Sept 1972] 43998/73 Headings F4R and F4V An air cooled lighting fitting has a first flow passage therethrough connecting an inlet 28 or 29 for ventilating air to a room discharge 13 or 14 and a second flow passage therethrough connecting an inlet for used air to a used air discharge 30, means being provided for supporting one or more electric lamps such as fluorescent tubes 6, 7 at a location in the second flow passage and means being also provided for regulating the flow of air through a communication between the first passage and a point in the second passage intermediate the said location and the discharge 30. The tubes 6, 7 are located in a reflector 5 disposed in a housing 1, the reflector being provided with two rows of apertures 24, 25 which are situated below corresponding apertures 26, 27 in a used air duct 4 which extends along the fitting in spaced relationship to the reflector 5 and is connected to the used air discharge 30. The flow of used air through the second flow passage is regulated by a pivoted flap 31 in the discharge 30, normal flow when the flap is open causing incoming air to pass over the tubes 6, 7 and through the apertures 24, 25 and 26, 27. Ventilating air entering the fitting through the inlets 28, 29 passes through ducts 2, 3 parallel to the used air duct 4 and flows through apertures 22, 23 into mixing chambers 11, 12 before leaving through the discharge openings 13, 14, the air flows being adjusted so that the pressures they produce in the region 37 are in equilibrium. When the flap 31 is closcd, e.g. by a room thermostat, used air flowing through the apertures 24, 25 is entrained by the ventilating air and recirculated through the room.
