Abstract

1373579 Electro-phoretic coating PRESSED STEEL FISHER Ltd 16 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 22875/72 Heading C7B In a continuous process for electro-phoretic coating of workpieces e.g. vehicle bodies 12, a first pressure aided membrane separation (e.g. ultra-filtration) unit 17 is used to control the concentration of coating medium in the coating bath 11 e.g. via lines 19, 20, and a second such separation (e.g. ultra-filtration) unit 18 is used to control the concentration of dilute coating medium obtained at a coated workpiece wash-off station 14 e.g. withdrawn from catch tank 16 along line 26. The latter unit may provide a first output of dilute coating medium for return to the bath via line 24 and a second output for returning to the wash-off station as wash-down liquid via line 25 and feed tank 15. The first unit may also control contaminant level in the coating medium. A plurality of wash-off stations in a cascade arrangement may be used, wash-off effluent from one being fed to the next nearer to the coating bath.
