Abstract
1373456 Cleaning swimming pools M R ROSS and R D HENDERSON 14 Nov 1972 [17 Nov 1971] 52538/72 Heading A4F [Also in Division B7] A floating device particularly for use in cleaning swimming pools comprises a float 14 propelled over the pool surface by a jet from an impeller tube 72 which, together with a rudder 74, is rotatably mounted on the float 14. The arrangement is such that water ejected from the tube 72 tends to rotate the tube 72 with the rudder 74 in one sense, whilst the rudder 74 tends to oppose this rotation to an extent which is dependent upon the speed of the float 14 over the pool surface. When the float 14 becomes trapped and motionless in a corner of the pool, the rudder 74 is less effective and swiveling of the tube 72 results thereby extricating the float 14. The float is provided with flexible tubes 56, 58 which terminate in nozzles 60. Thus when water under pressure is forced therethrough, debris on the pool bottom is randomly agitated thereby facilitating debris removal by a pool filtering system. The floating device may also be used in pond aerators, pond treaters, distributing devices for insecticides, and other chemicals, and in toy ships and amusement devices.
