1373310 Polypeptide ELI LILLY & CO 27 Nov 1972 54702/72 Heading C2C Novel polypeptides of the formula H-Ala-XLeu - Glu - Pro - Y - Tyr - Pro - Gly - Asp - Asp- Ala- Thr - Pro - Z - Gln - Met - Ala - Gln - Tyr- Ala - Ala - Z<SP>1</SP> - Leu - Arg - Arg - Tyr - Ileu - Asn- Met - Thr - Arg - Pro - Arg - Tyr - NH 2 wherein X = Pro, Y = Gln, Z = Glu, Z<SP>1</SP> = Glu or X=Pro, Y=Val, Z=Glu, Z<SP>1</SP>=Glu or X=Ser, Y=Gln, Z=Glu, Z<SP>1</SP>=Glu or X=Pro, Y=Val, Z=Glu, Z<SP>1</SP>=Asn or X=Pro, Y=Val, Z=Asn, Z<SP>1</SP>=Glu, are prepared by grinding animal pancreas glands to near-emulsified conditions in water immiscible solvents, contacting said glands with aqueous alcohol acidified to pH of 8 to 8À5 by addition of alkali metal hydroxides or ammonia; separating at this pH precipitated fats and ammonium phosphate, adjusting the pH of the resulting solutions to about 5À2 with acids, diluting these solutions with mixtures of diethyl ether and ethanol, then letting these mixtures stand for 12 or more hours and isolating the precipitated polypeptides. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for parenteral administration, contain the above polypeptides and suitable carriers. The compositions are used as veterinary laxatives.
