Abstract

1372191 Temperature sensitive device EATON-WILLIAMS PRODUCTS Ltd 4 Oct 1971 [2 July 1970] 32246/70 Heading G1A In a temperature sensing device for use in a central heating system a thermistor 11 is mounted at the centre of a hollow glass or metal member whose surfaces have a matt black coating preferably by means of an ebonite lacquer. The leads 14 and 15 of the thermistor pass, as shown, via glass tubes to contacts 17 and 18 in a cap member 16 which is adapted to be fitted into a bayonet fitting type lamp holder. A circuit Fig. 2 (not shown) for the thermistor is disclosed comprising a variable resistor which is connected in series with the thermistor so that the voltage across the thermistor varies linearly with temperature. In the main embodiment the device is positioned in a room and provides a reading equivalent to half the mean radiation temperature plus half the air temperature, but in an alternative arrangement the device is placed on the outside wall of a building together with an air temperature-sensing element consisting of a thermistor at the centre of a polished bulb, the difference between the two outputs providing a measure of the solar radiation which is used in conjunction with a measurement from a conventional air temperature sensor located in a room to be controlled.
