Abstract
1371673 Electric control DAIMLER-BENZ A G 25 April 1972 [26 April 1971] 19189/72 An arrangement for controlling a rod in a diesel engine fuel injection pump comprises an electromagnetically actuated control element which is displaced automatically as a function of a D.C. control voltage representing engine speed wherein the voltage is chopped into a rectangular pulse voltage having a constant amplitude and having a pulse interval and pulse width which vary in such a manner that the average value of the pulse voltage is equal to the control voltage, the effect of the pulse voltage on the element being opposed by a loading on the element produced by a spring. The D.C. voltage is applied through series resistor 37 to a non-inverting input of amplifier 36. The amplifier output is connected through positive feedback resistor 42, of resistance ten times that of series resistor 37, to the non- inverting input of the amplifier and through resistor 38 to a capacitor 39 and an inverting input of the amplifier. Thus for positive voltage output on the amplifier the capacitor charges until it reaches the value of the voltage at the non-inverting input when the amplifier is tripped. Its output becomes negative, turning on power transistor 41 to actuate the electromagnet. The voltage of capacitor falls until it is less than the voltage at the inverting input. Then the amplifier trips back and 41 goes off. The arrangement is said to overcome friction of the rod more reliably.
