Abstract
1371667 Sewing VIRGIONIO RIMOLDI & C SpA 16 May 1972 [19 June 1971] 22886/72 Heading D1G In a sewing assembly (Fig. 1) a workpiece is held against a table top, and moved along by a clamping arrangement which comprises a clamp 9 on telescopically extending arms which are supported on a carriage 3 driven along a guide bar 13 by an electric motor 4 and a chain drive 6. On approaching the sewing station the leading edge of the clamp contacts a sensing device 19 which releases a lock 18 thus allowing lateral movement of the clamp, which is then guided by a member 16 contacting a guide 17 on the machine. When sensing device 20 detects the clamp is permits a pneumatic or hydraulic system 11 to raise the clamp which actuates a sensor to reverse the direction of movement of the clamp. On reaching the loading station again, the clamp is lowered onto another workpiece by an operator actuating a foot control 30, 31. By selectively operating the dissimilar pistons and cylinders 22, 23 the clamp 'may be raised to three heights, one to adjust the workpiece beneath it, a higher one when returning to the loading station, and the highest one to avoid obstacles if necessary.
