Abstract
1371543 Sulphur: disulphurizing gas streams COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 28 June 1972 [28 June 1971] 30199/72 Heading C1A Hydrogen sulphide is removed from a gas stream by washing the stream with an aqueous solution of ferrous and ferric sulphates in which the concentration of ferrous sulphate is greater than that of ferric sulphate to form sulphuric acid and a deposit of sulphur, and oxygen is blown through the solution to oxidize the ferrous sulphate in the presence of the sulphuric acid to ferric sulphate. The washing solution may contain 5 to 10 gm./litre of ferric sulphate and 100 to 150 gm./litre of ferrous sulphate. A hydrogen sulphide containing gas stream is introduced into a container 1 through an inlet 2. The washing solution is sprayed into the container 1 by means of spray nozzles 3. The used washing solution 4 is drawn off from a tank 5 and recycled to the nozzles 3 by means of a pump 6. Sulphur is deposited at 7 in the tank 5 and the purified gas stream escapes at 8. Oxygen preferably in the form of air is introduced by conduit 9.
