Abstract

1371285 Wrapping machines BELOIT CORP 28 Jan 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 4231/72 Heading B8C Apparatus for wrapping a sheet about a roll R of paper includes a pneumatically actuated selector carriage 12 by means of which wrapping paper W from any one of a series of different papers on rolls rotatable about shafts 10 may be pre-selected and supplied to the rotating roll R. Each sheet W passes over a tension idler 14, between a take-up bar 15 and nip angle 15b and over a stationary bar to pass between guide bars 16, 17, 21, 23 which have selectively inflatable diaphragms 65 to provide a nip between any two adjacent bars. Initially, each sheet passes through a throat 19 and terminates just above knife 79. A selected sheet is gripped between adjacent guide bars when the corresponding diaphragm 65 is inflated by the use of control valves. Carriage 12 then descends bodily to insert the selected sheet between drive rollers 24, 25, whereupon roller 25 is pneumatically advanced to form a nip with roller 24, and the diaphragm 65 is deflated. A timer which is set manually or by roll diameter sensors controls the duration of drive to rollers 24, 25, the knife 79 being pneumatically fired to sever the sheet W when an overlap is made. The sheet ends are secured by glue from roll 103 or by tape.
