Abstract

Soft paper or similar materials are fed from a large master reel at a tension which ensures rolls are not tightly wound. When one roll (7) is completed, two pressure rollers (10, 11) move in and hold the material (6) against two of the main drive rollers (2, 5). Another roller (9) forces the space bobbin (8) against the material and breaks it. The full bobbin is swung away by a lever operated by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder and the loose end is reeled onto the spare bobbin. A differential mechanism controls all roller speeds to ensure a smooth changeover, rollers (2, 3, 4, 5) revolving in 90 deg. steps.
