Abstract
137,124. Hadgkiss, L. M., and Smith, H. J. Jan. 15, 1919. Stoppers, connexions to prevent loss of. - In oil, petrol, water, and like fillers for the fuel and oil tanks and radiators of motor-cars &c., the filler cap 10 is anchored to the body 1 of the fitting secured within the opening in the tank &e. by a spring ring 6 engaging behind a shoulder or within a groove 5 in the body 1 and having hinged thereto a loop 8 slidably engaging the neck of a stud 9 on the underside of the cap 10, so that the. cap is free to be rotated to screw it into or out of the filler opening. The ring 6 engages the top flange 3 of the filter or strainer 4, and holds it in place, resting on a shoulder 2 on the body 1. The loop 8 and the ring 6 may be made of wire or strip metal, and instead of a loop, a single arm may be provided with its end bent around the stud 9. The ends of the ring are bent inwards, so that by pressing them together, the ring may be contracted to permit of its removal or insertion. The loop 8 has eyes at its end engaging a loop 7 on the ring 6.
