Abstract

1371217 Anti-theft devices SOC D'EXPLOITATION DES BREVETS NEIMAN 23 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 44423/71 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions E2 and F1] An anti-theft device for a diesel enginepowered vehicle comprises a key actuated lock having one position for locking an essential operative member of the vehicle and another position when the engine is running, a first solenoid 12 has a movable plunger core 10 which engages a cam 13 of the lock and a second solenoid 27 has a movable plunger core 28 which locks or unlocks the engine starter control device. The essential member, such as the steering column, is maintained unlocked while the engine is running by the plunger core 10 abutting a shoulder 13<SP>1</SP> on the cam 13 thereby preventing anticlockwise turning of the key to the locking position. A handle 22 controlling the starter device is controlled by the plunger core 28, the solenoid 27 of which being in circuit with a battery 21, a switch 4, closed by turning the key clockwise past the unlocking position, a switch 15, closed when the engine is stopped, and the solenoid 12. Turning the key clockwise withdraws the plunger cores 10,28 and frees the handle 22 of the starter device when the engine is running, the switch 15 opens as the result of the decrease in oil pressure and the. solenoids are deenergized, the plunger 10 reengages the shoulder 13<SP>1</SP> and prevents actuation of the lock until the engine is stopped.
