Abstract
1371205 Automatic control of fluid level SCHLOEMANN AG 22 Sept 1971 [22 Sept 1970] 44196/71 Heading G3R A regulator controlling the level of molten metal in a continuous casting installation, comprises a differenting element followed by an integrating element, and a proportional element in parallel with the series combination of the two. As shown, flow of metal from a tundish 1 into a mould 4 is controlled by a stopper 3. The level in the mould is detected by measuring at 6 the radiation from a radio-active source 5; the signal from 6 is transmitted by 11 to a comparator 14 which also receives a desired value signal S. The resultant error signal is fed to a proportional element 21, which has a feedback amplifier, and to a diode limiter 24 (to eliminate harmonies) and two differentiating elements 13a, 13b, (the second of which is for "time factor compensation") connected to an integrator 20. The combined outputs of 20 and 21 controls the flow regulating stopper 3 by electro-hydraulic mechanism 16 ... 19. The proportional factor in the control signal is made appreciably less than the integrated factor. The signal applied to the integrator is made of opposite sign to that applied to the proportional element. The invention maintains adequate control when the delivery tube 2 to the mould is suddenly cleared after a blockage.
