Abstract

1371201 Dispensing fluids DOVER CORP 27 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 40334/71 Heading A4T [Also in Division F2] A gasoline dispensing nozzle has an inlet valve member 17 movable to an open position by lever 22 and an outlet valve member 18 secured to the end of spout 14 carrying a slidable collar 45 sealingly engageable with the mouth of a tank filling tube 16, the arrangement being such that the spout 14 moves through collar 45, when the latter engages tube 16, until spring 46 is coilbound, at which point the main body of the dispensing nozzle together with adaptor 27 move relative to the nozzle against spring 31 to unseat valve member 18. Should the spout be removed from the filling tube, valve member 18 is reseated by spring 31. With both valve members 17, 18 unseated, gasoline flowing to the spout past poppet 76 draws air through level sensing conduit 64, port 70 (aligned with passage 69 when valve member 18 is unseated) passages 67, 66, chamber 63, check valve 93 Fig. 9 (not shown) and ports 75 in seat ring 74. When the level of gasoline in the tank covers inlet 65 of conduit 64, the depression created above diaphragm 62 raises the latter to withdraw pin 78 from between latch balls 79, thereby allowing spring 19 to seat valve member 17. Vapour from the tank is withdrawn through port 48 (controlled by collar 45), along conduit 49 and through passages 51, 5 5 to a recovery conduit. If the latter should become blocked, the resultant pressure rise acts via passage 58 below diaphragm 60 to raise the latter, thereby withdrawing pin 78 and causing valve member 17 to seat. Coupling 87 transmits upward movement only of diaphragm 62 to diaphragm 60, and allows relative upward movement of diaphragm 60 as required when the vapour recovery conduit is blocked.
