Abstract

1371183 Measuring liquid level electrically MOTO METER GmbH 5 March 1973 [22 March 1972] 10508/73 Heading G1N A probe for use in measuring the level of a liquid in a container comprises a metal rod 1, a substantially shorter carbon rod 3, an electrically conductive resilient sleeve 4 at least partially encompassing the metal and carbon rods, and an insulating sleeve 6 round the rods and connecting sleeve. The sleeve 6 consists of an inner and an outer layer, the inner layer of synthetic plastics material having a lower melting temperature than the material of the outer layer which is of heat shrinkable material. On cooling the outer layer shrinks to press the melted inner layer on to the electrode. The probe is attached in the container e.g. a vehicle radiator, by coupling 8 which is crimped on to the probe over a further plastics material 11. The probe is connected via connector 2 to a voltage divider circuit, the resistance of which varies depending upon whether the probe tip is immersed or not in the liquid.
