Abstract
1524024 Measuring liquid level electrically NSF CONTROL Ltd 6 Aug 1975 [18 May 1974] 22273/74 Heading G1N In order to prevent unwanted tracking of currents in a resistive type liquid level indicator a guard electrode is used. In the arrangement of Fig. 1, the level of brake fluid in a reservoir (not shown) is monitored by measuring the resistance between two conductive probes 16, 17 extending into the reservoir and liquid and which are mounted on respective limbs 14, 15 of rubber member 12 which extends through a screw cap 11 of the reservoir heads 18, 19 connected to probes 16, 17 respectively are connected to positive 21 and earth 22 lines of a D.C. supply and the resistance between probes 16, 17 is monitored. To prevent current flowing along the surfaces of the insulating members 11, 12 and across slot 13 to ground a guard electrode 23 is mounted on limbs 15 and connected via lead 24 to an appropriate potential. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) where the reservoir is made of conductive material a single probe is used and member 12 is not split into two limbs, the guard electrode being mounted on member 12.
