Abstract

1371060 Differential gear SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 10 Nov 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 52195/71 Heading F2D A bevel differential gear comprises side wheels 9, 10, located axially inwards on spigots of a carrier 8 by flanges 11 on the spigots, and meshing planets 6, 7, located radially inwards by bearing surfaces on brackets 3, extending inwardly from a driving crown wheel 1 and receiving spindles 5 projecting radially from the carrier 8 to support the planets 6, 7. In Fig. 1, the brackets 3 are integral with the crown wheel 1 which is itself supported by a single surrounding row of ball-bearings of which the inner race is shown at 2. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a ring (23), which carries the planet spindles and has spherical bearing engagement with the outer faces of the planets, has radial lugs bolted to the crown wheel. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the support ring is split in a transverse plane and its halves (30, 31) are held together and to the crown wheel by bolts or rivets. Fig. 5 has axial extension sleeves (37) on the ring-halves in which the side-wheels (38) are journalled. Bracket parts may be steel pressings, or of light metal, sintered metal powder or reinforced synthetic resin.
