Abstract

1370919 Air intake cleaner for marine engine ALTAIR ASSOCIATES 21 Aug 1972 [10 Sept 1971 9 March 1972] 42427/71 and 11159/72 Heading BIT An air intake cleaner for a marine I.C. engine comprises one or more filters F (Fig. 2), which consist of a pad of nylon fibres stapled between corrugated supporting meshes, arranged at the inlet side of a frame-like housing 5 which also encloses a water droplet separator comprising upright parallel vanes 6 defining tortuous passages for the air and each carrying droplet-collecting channels 8, 9, 10 (Fig. 6). As shown three filters F are removably secured in parallel by strips 4. Each filter comprises a pad sealed permanently in a metal frame, which may have drain holes, and is washable. A further water droplet separator could be arranged on the upstream side of the filters. The lower part of housing 5 (Fig. 3, not shown) incorporates a collecting space for water running down the vanes, which has one, or more, outlets 14. The water outlet could extend from the underside of the housing.
