Abstract

1370903 Electromagnetic tuned interrupters WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 17 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970 24 Dec 1970] 58602/71 Heading H1N A tuned electromagnetic interrupter has tines 24 rigidly secured on a support board 23 which is also attached to a core 51 adjacent the free ends of the tines with a flux carrier 53 coupling the core 51 and tines 24. Each tine 24 has a movable contact hook 28 attached to its free end and its fixed end is secured to a magnetic block 26 and the two blocks 26 are separated by an insulator sheet. The board 23 is made of ceramic material and has nickel plated circuit paths (35 to 39) thereon to which the tines 24 and fixed contact brackets 22 are connected. The fixed contacts are rhodium wires 32 fastened at one end to a base 30 of the respective bracket 22 which is adjustably mounted on the board 23. Each bracket 22 has an upstanding portion 34 and the wire 32 can be pretensioned to engage either side of the portion 34. Fig. 4A shows an arrangement with the two contacts sets allowing parallel connection thereof so that the upper contacts 28, 32 close as the tines 24 swing toward each other and the lower contacts 28, 32 close as the tines 24 swing apart. If the contacts are set as shown in Fig. 9A they can be connected in series to complete their circuit for a short time in the middle of each swing of the tines 24. Spring wires 74, 75 may connect the printed circuit areas to pins 73 projecting from the two part housing 71, 80.
