Abstract

1370634 Tapes for sliding clasp fasteners TEXTRON Ltd 10 Nov 1972 [19 Nov 1971] 53900/71 Heading E2S A method of manufacturing a sliding clasp fastener stringer comprises the steps of warpknitting a carrier tape to a predetermined initial width, subjecting the tape to thermal treatment to reduce its width by at least 25 per cent of its initial value, and mounting a series of fastener elements along one longitudinally extending edge portion of the shrunken tape. The fastener elements which may be discrete elements or comprised of a coil or meander configuration may be sewn, clamped or moulded on to the tape. The tape may comprise a yarn having a high thermal shrinkage and may be knitted to produce a knitting pattern, Fig. 9 (not shown) on a three-bar warp knitting machine and then heat treated.
