1370534 Phosphoric acid production B G ZOTOV S K VOSKRESENSKY V A KONONOV S D EVENCHIK E N ZHUCHKOV D K NIKITINA N R BRODOVSKY V S KUNIN E P MASLOV N I TEREKHOV N A KOVALEVA and A K KISELEV 2 Feb 1972 4795/72 Heading C1A H3PO4 is prepared by mixing H3PO4 of 18-48% P2O5 by wt. concen. with H2SO4 of 75-98% by wt. concen. at a temp. of 95- 150‹ C. for 2-60 min., the wt. ratio of the acids being 1À5-3À5 : 1, and then digesting Ca-containing phosphate raw material, e.g. apatite, with the acid mixture at 65-100‹ C., the H2SO4 being present in amount corresponding to 90-105% by wt. of the amount necessary to convert all the Ca into CaSO4.2H2O or alpha-CaSO4.¢H2O, the resulting precipitate of CaSO4 being filtered from the product phosphoric acid; the precipitate being washed with water and the washings and some of the phosphoric being combined to give a liquor having a 18-48% P2O5 concen. and recycled to the acid mixing step. Steam may be introduced into the acid mixing step, the mixture being maintained at a temp. of 95-100‹ C. for 0À5-5 min. to remove SiF4 and then at a temp. of 100-150‹ C. to remove HF. Silica may also be added to the mixture in an amount of 20-100 kg/ton of product phosphoric acid calculated as P2O5.
