Abstract
1370285 Moulding ceramic articles DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 28 Oct 1971 [3 Nov 1970] 52176/70 Heading B5A A ceramic body with internal ducts is produced by filling a mould with a powder mixture of silicon nitride and a fluxing agent and a number of vaporizable cores distributed in a pattern, and hot pressing the mixture until the cores vaporize, the cores being vaporizable at a temperature at or above that at which the silicon nitride body is formed and below that at which the silicon nitride dissociates. The mould may be of graphite and the fluxing agent of magnesium oxide; the. cores may comprise a mixture of magnesia, lampblack, ammonia and flour, and the powder mixture may comprise, by weight, one part magnesia to twenty parts silicon nitride. The mixture may be hot pressed at approximately 1800‹ C. and at a pressure of approximately 1100 p.s.i.
