Abstract
1370192 Valves BRITISH GLASS INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 5 March 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7292/72 Heading F4V [Also in Division F2] Means for cooling moulds for producing glass articles, comprises cooling air control assemblies, e.g. two, four or six assemblies; each comprising a pair of telescoped cylinders 3, 4, Fig. 1, each having a set of outlet apertures 12 therein. A bolt 8 is secured to the top end of the inner cylinder 3 and extends freely through an opening in top end'of outer cylinder 4. The inner cylinder can be held stationary by the bolt whilst the outer cylinder is rotated, or the inner cylinder can be rotated by the bolt into positions in which a spring-loaded ball (not shown) engages one of a series of indentations (14), Fig. 4 (not shown), in the base 1. Moreover, the outer cylinder can be moved longitudinally relatively to the inner cylinder by adjustment of a nut 13, a coil spring (11) being compressed ;between the top ends of the cylinders to hold the top end of the outer cylinder against the nut. Thus by appropriate relative angular and longitudinal adjustment of the cylinders the degree of overlap of the apertures and the direction of discharge can be regulated to provide effective differential cooling of an associated mould. The inner cylinder may have two sets of apertures therein. A valve may be provided in the base to override the control by the cylinders. Means sensing the temperature of the mould at various locations may be used to automatically control the relative disposition of the cylinders.
