A t m o s p h e r i c v a p o u r burners; vaporizing - apparatus; mantle Supports and sockets. - A noiseless v a p o u r burner for illuminating and cooking purposes comprises a pipe 1 leading from a petroleum container and connected by branch tubes 2, 3 to an annular sheet-iron vaporizer 6, a U-tube 4 depending from the vaporizer and carrying a nozzle 5, and a removable mixing-chamber 13. The mixing-chamber consists of an upper dome portion 14, and a lower portion 16 having an attached inlet tube 20 and screwed or otherwise fitted to the vaporizer. The vaporizer 6 is formed with a central opening 7, a base 12, a sloping inner wall 8, and a vertical outer wall 10 having an edge 11 bent upwardly to form a flame-spreading gutter. The upper portion 14 of the mixing-chamber is formed with perforations 15 directed upwardly and outwardly, and is connected to the lower portion by the bent-over edge 17. The lower portion 16 fits over the vaporizer and is formed with perforations 18 directed downwardly and outwardly, and perforations 19 directed straight downwards or downwardly and inwardly so as to heat the vaporizer. A thin ribbed tube 21 is placed in the inlet tube 20 to prevent ignition occurring within the burner. In the case of incandescent, burners, the incandescent body is carried by a holder 25 which is inserted in a slitted support 24 screwed or otherwise fixed to the dome portion 14. The holder may be secured in the support by a screw.
