Abstract

1369972 A firing rate regulator WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERUKONBUHRLE AG 8 Jan 1973 [7 Jan 1972] 1038/73 Heading F3C [Also in Division G3] A throttling device, which can serve as a firing rate regulator of an automatic firing weapon comprises a sleeve 30, Fig. 2, which receives an extension of a member 5 therein, the latter being provided with walls 21 and grooves 40 formed therebetween. The walls are each formed with a portion having a radius which is less than the radius of the wall, this portion extending over an angle of 180 degrees, and are formed so that each wall has said portion diametrically offset from a similar portion in the adjacent wall. Webs 21a, Fig. 4, are located between pairs of walls 21 and may have a pair of tips 23 which are longer than a pair of tips 24 or may have pairs of tips which are equal in length. In use fluid supplied through an inlet 4, Fig. 2, in the sleeve 30, is received by a groove 40 which is between a wall 21 and a flange 20 of the member 5 and is then passed through the clearance formed in the walls 21 and in the webs 21a and into radial passages 18, Fig. 3, which connect to an axial passage 17 in the member 5. When the latter is positioned in a housing 2, Fig. 1, of an automatic firearm, the fluid escapes from the axial passage 17 to move a piston 7 and actuate a member 8 which is connected to a firing mechanism (not shown) of the firearm. The fluid, which in this case is gas, is formed in a barrel 1 of the weapon and passes therefrom into the inlet 4 of the sleeve 30. After passing through the member 5 the gas exhausts through an outlet 13 in the housing 2. Buffer springs 11 are provided for the piston 7 and a spring 9 urges against the member 8. The throttling of the gas regulates the pressure applied to the member 8 and makes allowance for any variation of pressure in the barrel 1 of the weapon due to change of temperature.
