Abstract
1369715 Timing circuits FERRANTI Ltd 19 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9325/72 Heading H3T A timing circuit includes a resistor R 1 and a capacitor C 1 having their junction point connected to the input of an amplifier A 1 having substantially unit gain and a potential divider R 2 , R 3 connected between the amplifier output and a voltage source E, an intermediate point X on the divider providing the charging voltage for the elements R 1 , C 1 . The amplifier A 1 may be a differential amplifier or a single input amplifier. In operation, as the capacitor C 1 charges, the input and the output of amplifier A 1 are maintained at the same voltage level. A larger time constant is obtained as a result of bypassing part of the charging current for C 1 via R 2 . The timing circuit may be followed by a threshold detector A 2 having a threshold bias derived from the same voltage source E. The timing circuit may be used in servo or stepping motor applications (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) by connecting a pair of parallel connected diodes across either R 1 or R 2 so that the output of amplifier A 1 follows rapid changes in the input E either instantaneously or very slowly, respectively.
