Abstract
1369608 Microwave heating apparatus J H A SOULIER 23 Dec 1971 [31 Dec 1970 (2)] 60130/71 Heading H5H [Also in Division G3] To achieve uniform heating of a sheet 7 of material passed transversely in front of a slot 9 or slot system 9a, 9b in a wall of a microwave furnace waveguide 1, along which microwave energy is passed, the width of the slot 9 or slot system increases in the direction f 2 of energy attenuation along the axis of energy propagation. There may be a single slot 9, Fig. 2 (not shown), or a set of longitudinal slots 9a, Fig. 3 (not shown), or longitudinal slots 9a and lateral slots 9b, Fig. 4, or a slot 9 with lateral slots 9b, Fig. 5. Additional control is exercised by an adjustable grid 12 with slots in variable registry with the slots 9a, 9b, and by an adjustable metal plate 10 with tapered edge 10a as described in Specification 1,368,779. This may becombined with a P.T.F.E. plate 14 as in that Specification. Various arrangements are described for controlling the supply of microwave energy in accordance with the unabsorbed energy detected at the end of the furnace having load 6, Fig. 8 (not shown).
