Abstract
Treatment. gives a glass in which stresses and latent forces are eliminated leading to ease of cutting and uniformity throughout the glass sheet or strip. Glass is thermally conditioned at a temp. above the annealing range whilst automatically controlling the heat loss of the glass by temp. detection, in order to ensure that the required gradients of heat exist in the material; at this point the glass enters the annealing range at an average predetermined temp. distribution that is to all intents and purposes constant. Heat treatment is carried out as the glass, held in a frame, moves through a conditioning tunnel or furnace prior to actual annealing whilst still held in the frame.
