Abstract

1369204 Moulding plastics scrap PLASTIC RECYCLING Ltd 16 Nov 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 41163/70 Heading B5A Scrap material containing at least 85% by weight of thermoplastics is granulated, formed into a mat, softened by heat and compressed to the required shape by rollers 24. The process may be continuous and the sheet further shaped by a reciprocating press and cut, painted or printed. The thermoplastics may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, P.V.C., polyvinyl acetate nylon and polymethyl methacrylate and may contain paper, cardboard, wood chips, straw, thermosetting plastics and metal foil. A rectangular metal frame (not shown) is placed on a conveyer 14 at 16, a sheet of paper is placed within the frame and it is filled with granulated material. The conveyer 14 carries the material through jets of hot air in an oven 12, through adjustable rollers 24 and under jets of cooling air 26. Ramp bars 28 on either side of the conveyer separate the frame from the material before it is compressed. The belt conveyer 14 may be replaced by a reciprocating conveyer and the granulated scrap is screened to the desired size and fed continuously by a vibratory hopper on to the conveyer where it is levelled by a doctor blade. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,267,918.
