1368724 Attaching connecting lugs to coils; shearing ANO-COIL Ltd 5 Feb 1973 [5 Feb 1972] 5581/73 Headings B3A and B3W Coil winding apparatus having means for attaching connecting lugs 24a, 24e, i.e. conductors extending from the side of the wound coil and electrically connected thereto, comprises a table 16 providing a guide path for the coil material, e.g. metal tape 12, a tool for attaching the lugs to the coil material, a feed slide 31 reciprocable transversely of the guide path, a reciprocable cutter slide 30 located between the feed slide and table 16, means for moving the slides from an inoperative position up to the table, means for operating the lug attachment tool and means for actuating a cutter 50 on the slide 30 to sever the coil material after the feed slide has returned to the inoperative position. When a coil 20 has been wound, the apparatus is stopped and pressure cylinders 38, 46 are actuated. The cylinder 38 moves the feed slide 31, which holds the lug material in slots 48 by means of a clamp actuated by the cylinder 46, and the cutter slide 30 until the latter abuts the table 16. Movement of the slide 31 is continued until it abuts the slide 30, thereby compressing a spring 40. The lug material now overlies the metal tape 12 and it is clamped to it by a press ram 17. Projections on the ram 17 electrically and mechanically connect the lugs 24a, 24e to the tape 12. The pressure cylinder 46 unclamps the lug material on the slide 31 and the cylinder 38 is actuated to withdraw the slide 31 while the spring 40 maintains the slide 30 in abutment with the table, until it is engaged by a stop 56 when both slides move in unison. At the end of the return stroke of the cylinder 38, the slide 31 engages a limit switch 60, which actuates a cylinder 52 to cut the lug material by means of a cutter 50 and shear-edge 51 and winding of the next coil 20 commences.
