Abstract

1368415 Preparation of aminomethyl benzoic acid ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 11 May 1973 22527/73 Heading C2C p-Aminomethyl benzoic acid is prepared by reacting a C 1 -C 4 alkyl ester of p-cyano benzoic acid at a temperature of from 10-200‹ C. with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst in an aqueous medium containing at least one alkaline reagent selected from a hydroxide, oxide or carbonate of an alkali metal; the hydroxide or oxide of an alkaline earth metal; or ammonia, the amount of alkaline reagent or ammonia being at least sufficient to provide one gram equivalent of metallic ion or ammonium ion of each mole of the alkyl ester of p-cyanobenzoic acid.
