136,813. Agnelli, C. Dec. 14, 1918, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Dash-pots and fluid-friction vibration dampers.-In a liquid shock-absorber for vehicles, the cylinder and piston are connected respectively to the two parts whose displacements are to be damped, such as an axle and the frame, and the piston is formed with passages, some which are traversed by the liquid when the piston is forced in one direction by the shock and the others during the reverse movement due to the reaction of the springs. The portion of the cylinder wall in which the piston is normally situated is provided with grooves 6 so as to prevent any damping action for small shocks. The piston 2 is mounted loosely on the rod 3, but is prevented from rotating by engaging slots 7 in the cylinder wall. Disks 8, 9 are fixed to the rod 3 so that, by rotating the piston-rod, the mouths of the passages in the piston can all be varied together. The passages for the forward flow are made of larger cross-sectional area than the return passages, and the flow is controlled by pivoted flap valves 16 mounted on the disks.
