Abstract

1367438 Determining flash point electrically TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 1 June 1973 [15 June 1972] 26265/73 Heading G1N The flash point P of an oil is estimated by measuring the specific gravity G and viscosity V and solving the equation P = k 1 + k 2 /G - k 3 /VG, where k 1 , k 2 , k 3 are constants. As shown (Fig. 1), the density of the oil in a line 1 is measured at 5 and the signal converted to E 15 representing API gravity G, the viscosity V is measured at 10 to produce a signal E 2 , and the two signals are combined in the circuitry shown in accordance with the above equation to produce a signal E 5 0 representing the flash point P. Another embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) determines flash point from the viscosity and density values by a different relationship.
