Abstract
1367415 Nickel base dispersion strengthened alloy INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 17 May 1972 [17 May 1971] 23153/72 Heading C7A Wrought dispersion-strengthened alloy with a coarse grain structure having an aspect ratio of at least 3:1 and a minimum average grain dimension of at least 30Á consists of:- and Refractory oxide 0À5-2% the balance, apart from impurities, of which Bi, P, Pb, S, Sn and Zn should be present in the lowest amounts possible, being Ni. The refractory oxide must have a particle size of less than 1000A, a melting point of at least 1200‹C and a heat of formation at 1000‹C of at least 160 Cals (evolved) per gm. mol. of oxygen. Suitable oxides are those of Y, Ce, La, Th didymium or rare earth metal mixtures. The alloys may be made by hot consolidation of mechanically alloyed powder. A grain growth anneal may be effected on the extruded alloy at over 1232‹C and then an ageing treatment at 704-871‹C followed preferably by slow cooling.
