Abstract

1367086 Artificial stone IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Nov 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 57504/70 Heading C1H [Also in Division C3] Non-foaming compositions used for the preparation of flooring surfaces comprise (a) a resin-forming component selected from (i) isocyanate group-containing polyurethane prepolymers and (ii) organic polyisocyanates plus organic isocyanate-reactive compounds, (b) water, (c) an alkaline compound of a Group I metal which compound is sufficiently alkaline to absorb carbon dioxide under the conditions prevailing in the composition and (d) a filler. Solvents, bitumens and catalysts may be included in the compositions. In the preparation of the composition, water having the alkaline compound dissolved in it may be adsorbed on to the filler which is then blended with the remaining components. The alkaline compound (c) is preferably a soium compound, e.g. sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide. In examples the fillers used are fine sand and a graded coloured stone aggregate.
