Abstract
1366933 Succinic acid IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 May 1972 [4 June 1971] 19007/71 Heading C2C Succinic acid is separated from a mixture with adipic acid, and glutaric acid, e.g. nylon waste acid, by dissolving the mixture in nitric acid (65 to 75% by weight), cooling the solution to cause crystallization of the succinic acid. The acid mixtures comprises 10 to 20% adipic acid, 45 to 60% glutaric acid and 20 to 40% succinic acid. After cooling to 35‹ to 45‹ C. to crystallize and isolate the succinic acid the mother liquor is further cooled to give adipic acid crystals mixed with glutaric and succinic, and after separation evaporated to dryness to give solid glutaric acids.
