Abstract

1366643 Wire fabrics MESH INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 37702/71 Headings D1E and D1K Wire Fabrics. A woven wire fabric comprises a layer of straight weft wires or rods 3 between upper and lower layers 1 and 4 of straight warp wires or rods 2 and 5 each of the three layers defining a flat plane, and pre-corrugated weft binding wires or rods 6 alternating with wires 3, and passing over warp wires 2, through the fabric, and under warp wires 5. The binding wires 6 may be of smaller cross-section than the other wire, and the weft wires may be twisted at their ends around the outermost warp wires. Wire weaving looms, shedding, beating up, Figure 2. Two sheets 2, 5 of warp wires are supplied which pass respectively through half healds frames 9 and 11. Half healds 9 are attached to pivoted arms 25 operated by pneumatic pistons and cylinders 27, 28 to alternately hold sheet 2 above sheet 5 and then to lower sheet 2 under sheet 5 by means of half heald frame 9, to form a shed. Half heald frame 11 is attached to rods 17 which are reciprocated, through links 18 and 19 by a pneumatic piston and cylinder 20 to cause frame 11 to beat the wefts up. Weft inserting, finishing weft figures 2 and 3. The straight weft wires 3 are inserted on alternate picks, when warp sheet 2 is held above sheet 5, by a warpwise extending arm 53 which is traversed across the loom on guides 52 by chains 55 which are driven by a pneumatic piston and cylinder 56. The corrugated wefts 6 are inserted by a reciprocating rack member 82 into the sheds formed when warp sheet 2 is below sheet 5, the rack 82 being reciprocated by a pinion 70 attached to a shaft (64) Fig. 4, (not shown). The leading end of the weft wire 6 is gripped by a spring loaded clamp 83 at the end of member 82 and is engaged by a stationary clamp 86 on reaching the opposite side of the shed. Deflector members 84, 85 are provided at the leading end of rack member 82 to open out the shed as it enters. The wire 6 is fed between toothed wheels, 66 mounted on shaft 64 and 67 as it is inserted into the shed, which corrugate it, and shaft 64 and wheel 67 are driven by way of a chain and rack 77 by a pneumatic piston 78. The wefts 6 are cut to length after insertion by cooperating blades 89 and 88, Figure 2 on half heald frame 11 as they are beaten-up. Taking-up. Wefts are maintained at right angles to the warps as they move from the weaving area by a plurality of star wheels 48 whose teeth engage in the spaces between the wefts on a freely rotatable shaft 47. The wire fabric is advanced from the weaving area by pairs of clamps 12, 13 and 14, 15 which alternately clamp the fabric between them and move warpwise, and then release the fabric.
