1366528 Fillers for percolation beds E WALLOSCHKE 11 Nov 1971 52359/71 Heading C1C [Also in Division B5] A lightweight filling material for percolation beds in biological treatment plants is made by extruding plastics bodies which are roughened in the die (see Division B5). The roughened bodies may be tubes having longitudinal, helical or circumferential grooves or ribs, or having notches, and may be further roughened by bending to crack the surface while semi-plastic. Foamed polystyrene may be further roughened by steam heating to burst the surface cells. The filling material may be reinforced with stronger plastics and contain fibrous additives.
