1366270 Boots &c J J GLANCY 27 Feb 1973 9499/73 Heading A3B A corrective shoe has a heel including a tread layer 15, an upper layer 12, spacing means 13 between the layers 12, 15 and extending part way across the heel, and a wedge shape cushion 14 of greater resiliency than the rest of the heel, the spacing means 13 and cushion 14 being arranged so that their edges are flush with the edges of layers 12, 15 and, in the unloaded condition (Fig. 4), the upper layer 12 lies at an acute angle to the tread layer 15. As the wearer places his weight on the heel the wedge shape cushion compresses (Fig. 5) until, with all his weight on the heel, the upper layer 12 is parallel to the tread layer 15. This causes the edge of the cushion to bulge outwardly at 16. The upper layer 12 may be the rear end of a through sole or may be a separate layer attached to the lower surface of the through sole. The wedge shape cushion 14 is located at the outer side of the foot as shown to correct pronation of the foot and is located at the inner side of the foot to correct supination of the foot.
