Abstract

1366209 Converting rotary into reciprocating motion L SCHULER GmbH 4 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 45760/72 Headings F2Q and F2K A drive mechanism for imparting an intermittent reciprocating movement to a feed slide 9 of a conveyer gripper for feeding panels on strips of sheet metal to presses, comprises two cam plates 2, 3 fast on a driving shaft 1 rotating in timed relation with the speed of the press, the cams 2, 3 engaging cam follower rollers 7, 8 carried on one end 6 of a two-armed lever 5 which is thereby oscillated on a stationary pivot 4, the other end 10 of the lever 5 having teeth 11 (17, Fig. 2, not shown) which mesh a toothed pinion 12 of a crank arm 14 which is thus continuously rocked through an angle of 180 degrees about a stationary pivot 13. A connecting rod 16 is pivotally connected at 15 to the outer end of the crank arm 14 and to the feed slide 9, the length of stroke of which may be adjusted by varying the position of the pivotal connection 15 of the connecting rod 16 along the crank arm 14. The cam plates 2, 3 continuously abut the roller followers 7, 8 without clearance and are suitably shaped to impart the required acceleration and deceleration during forward and reverse motion to the feed slide 9 and may also ensure adequate stoppages i.e. dwell periods, at the dead centre end positions of the feed slide 9.
