1366110 Stamping CROWN CORK & SEAL CO Inc 17 Nov 1971 [4 March 1971] 53438/71 Heading B3Q In apparatus for drawing, sizing and/or wall issuing cans, a formed can is stripped from a punch by an ejector which is extended from the punch under the control of a cam and a cam follower which moves with the punch, movements of the follower transverse to those of the punch causing separation of the ejector. As shown, the follower 22, Fig. 1, has a resilient, lost-motion connection with a rack 32 which is connected by pinions 34, 36 to a further rack 40 on the ejector 18. During a drawing &c. stroke of the punch 12, the follower 22 traverses a straight section 28, 46 of the stationary cam 28, being drawn laterally into the entrance of a rise part 50 of the cam by a spring 65, Fig. 4, which also takes up lost-motion. Further lateral movement of the follower along the rise as the punch is withdrawn operates the ejector which may remain stationary relatively to the die. A fall portion 52 of this cam returns the ejector, and the follower 22 re-compresses the spring 65 as it returns to the straight section 30, deflecting a spring-pressed cam-section 32 in the process. The press-ram 14 runs on bearings 92, 94.
