1365885 Viners MATHER & PLATT Ltd 8 Dec 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 43067/70 Heading A1F In a mobile viner for gathering peas or beans the rear reclamation unit is omitted and the length of the riddling and beater chamber extended, the ratio of riddle drum length to riddle drum diameter being at least 2.60:1 preferably less than 3.20:1, and more preferably 1:3. In the Figures white arrows indicate crop, black arrows indicate vines and other non- crop material, and hatched arrows indicate a mixture. As the viner advances over the field the crop is picked up by the tined belt 31 and conveyed by the elevator 32 to the inside of a rotating riddle drum 34, open front and rear, which consists of axially spaced beams 38 with detachable riddle screens 39 of plastics coated metal between them. Within and concentric with the riddle drum is a beater drum which revolves much faster than the riddle drum and carries for the greater part of its length beater paddles 36, but towards its rear end forks 37 only. Pods and other waste matter are discharged from the rear of the riddle drum directly onto the ground. The peas or beans pass through the riddle screens 39 onto an apron 40 in the form of an endless belt mounted on non- circular rollers 41, and roll down it into a bucket conveyor 42, being subjected meanwhile to an air blast from a winnowing arrangement 43. Further waste material is discharged off the top of the apron 40. The bucket conveyor 42 merges with a bucket elevator 44 which terminates at its top in a rotating mesh open-ended cleaning cylinder 45 having at its top and exterior a meshing rotating cleaning brush 46. A suction waste removal duct 47 is provided at one end of the cylinder 45 to deliver waste material back to the elevator 32. Alternatively the final waste material may be discharged axially of cylinder 45 onto the ground. Below the cylinder 45 is a hopper system 48, (Fig. 5), consisting of a main hopper 49 and a subsidiary hopper 50, which is swung to collect the crop while the main hopper 49 is being discharged.
