1451755 Grain separating MASSEY-FERGUSON GmbH 14 Nov 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 5305/72 Heading A1F Grain separating apparatus for a combine harvester consists of: a crop elevator 16 having an underside 40 partially constituted by a plurality of transverse bars 42; an L-shaped bracket 53 against which abuts a plate 51 which, extends across the full width of the elevator, is pivoted about 61 to a concave 14. and has three rectangular transversely spaced holes 57 through which stones may pass; a second conveyor 50 positioned below the bars 42; a screen 54 and a support member 56 which forms a gutter 58 at its lower end and is resiliently hinged at 62 to a grain pan 48. In operation the scraper bars 38 of the elevator conveyor 32 move crop and stones up the inside of the elevator underside 40. Loose grain falls through the bars 42, along with small stones, onto screen 54. The remaining crop and larger stones continue up to plate 51 where rotor 46 feeds crop to the threshing apparatus and holes 57 allow the larger stones and further loose grain to fall through onto screen 54 which has a sieve like construction. Scraper bars 52 move grain and stones down screen 54, the grain falls through onto support member 56 and the stones are discharged at an opening A formed between the support member 56 and the elevator underside 40; and move grain up support member 56 and discharge it into a grain pan 48. In another embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown) the elevator conveyor is replaced by rotary beater elements (78 to 86), the grid of bars (42) extending along a greater length of the elevator floor (26). A transverse stone trap (88) is fitted in the elevator floor (26) in advance of the grid.
