Abstract

1365843 Packaging machines QUEPOR SA 8 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 11377/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division F2] In a device for forming prismatic cartons (Fig. 5) from filled and sealed flexible pre-scored containers 34 joined together in a string, a container enters a forming chamber defined by fixed side wall 3 aligned with a horizontally reciprocable side plate 6, an opposed vertically slidable side plate 4, a vertically movable pusher block 5, and two opposed side plates 7 linked to the motion of this block. Jaws 8 grip the interconnecting transverse seal 35 of container 34 for severance by knives 30, 30<SP>1</SP>, and as block 5 rises to compress the container into the shape of the forming chamber, plates 7 swing in on arms 21 at such a rate as to keep exactly level with prescored lines 40. Plate 4 is then lowered, and plate 6, on a rack-operated arm 26, ejects the formed carton into channel a.
